QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

With our simple shipping method, we will send you a box containing everything you need to safely ship your gown to us from wherever you are. Once we have completed the cleaning process, your gown and any other items are carefully packaged in an acid-free, museum-quality chest, sealed, and shipped back to you safely — looking as beautiful and new as the day you bought it.

Here are answers to some of the questions we get asked the most…

What is wedding gown preservation? What does it involve?

Once we receive your gown, we will perform a thorough evaluation to determine its specific needs. We’ll remove all bust pads and any rubberized elastic before the process begins, as these items can deteriorate and emit fumes which may discolor your gown over time.

Your gown will then be hand-treated and carefully cleaned to protect delicate beading, embroidery, and lace. We then inspect your gown and re-clean it (if necessary). Finally, your gown is carefully packaged in a Museum Quality Acid-Free Chest and shipped back to you.

How long will it take to get my gown back?

Our typical turnaround time is 4 – 6 weeks.

How much does it cost? Are there hidden fees?

There are no hidden fees! We do not charge extra for heavily soiled gowns, embellishments, or special fabrics. The cost will be the flat fee you are quoted on the purchase page, which includes shipping + $1,000 insurance. If you would like to purchase additional insurance on your gown, you will have the option to do so.

Are your materials acid free?

Yes, all materials used in the packaging of your gown are acid free.

Do you guarantee the removal of all stains?

We cannot guarantee all stains will be removed. However, we can guarantee that we will use all safe methods to clean your gown as thoroughly as possible.

Synthetic fabrics such as polyester will clean better than natural fabrics like silk, and the sooner stains are treated after wearing, the better chance we have of removing them before they become set. Remember, we are experienced professionals, so you can rest assured that your gown will be cleaned as thoroughly as possible.

Can I see my gown in the box?

Yes, your museum-quality box has a window where the bodice of the dress can be seen. We also include a pair of white cotton gloves for you to wear should you ever decide to remove the gown from the box.

These gloves will protect the gown from any natural oils on your skin — they should always be used when handling the gown after cleaning.

Why should I ship my gown to you for preservation instead of going to my neighborhood dry cleaner?

Your gown is an investment. And delicate fabrics and embellishments require specialized, experienced, and individualized care. That’s what we do best.

We have successfully cleaned + preserved thousands of gowns of all different fabrics and styles, from all over the country. As members of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists, we have the highest expertise in the industry behind us. (Read our glowing reviews!) If you have a local cleaner you know and trust who is as experienced as we are, by all means, discuss the process with them to see if you feel confident in their handling of your gown.

Do you clean veils?

Most veils can be safely cleaned, but some older veils and those with glued beads and/or appliques may not be well suited for cleaning. Most glue will yellow with age over time. If we determine we cannot clean your veil, we can package it in special tissue with your gown in the preservation box.

Do you send the gowns somewhere else to be cleaned?

All of our work is proudly done on-site at our store in Dayton, Ohio. That said, it is important to keep in mind that there are some occasions when a gown is in need of certain care and attention that may require a third party’s assistance. These instances may include repairs and alterations, or perhaps a silk gown in need of a milder cleaning solvent. These rare occasions are always discussed at length with the customer before any work begins.

Does my gown preservation come with a guarantee?

Yes, we offer a lifetime guarantee insuring against the yellowing of the gown (including the appearance of caramelized sugar stains) at any time. In the rare event a problem would occur, contact us and we’ll take care of your gown.

I have a very small/large wedding gown. Will it fit properly in a preservation box?

We have several sizes of boxes available to accommodate various gown sizes, and it is rare that a gown will not fit properly. If you have a very large gown and are concerned, we recommend that you contact us and send a photo so we can ensure it won’t be a problem.

What about small repairs?

We will do many small repairs at no additional charge. We can also handle many larger repairs for an additional fee. If you’re aware of any significant repairs needed, please let us know in advance so we can discuss options.

What kinds of things can go in the box with my gown?

We can include most items worn with the gown — such as gloves, scarves, and veils — but any items containing rubber or foam cannot be included. As stated above, we will remove any bust pads and rubber elastic from your gown before we begin the preservation process in order to prevent harmful fumes that could discolor your gown over time.
